Saguaro transforms a 10.2 acre site into a forward-looking, 100% affordable housing community designed to serve residents with comfort, health, and a strong sense of place. The development consists of 11 residential buildings, each a 3-story walk-up apartment housing 24 units, totaling 264 affordable homes. Complementing the residential fabric are three tenant support and recreation buildings, envisioned as community anchors that provide services, gathering areas, and indoor/outdoor connections. Two solar carports and five outdoor activity areas are strategically integrated, ensuring both sustainability and opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Palmdale is characterized by its high desert climate: hot summers, abundant sunlight, cool evenings, and low annual rainfall. These conditions informed every design move, from site layout to material selection. The architecture balances resiliency and comfort, ensuring that residents are shielded from extreme heat while still able to enjoy outdoor communal living that reflects Southern California’s culture. The tenant support and recreation buildings are positioned as focal points, ensuring residents have accessible spaces for gathering, education, and wellness. These structures, along with the network of courtyards and walkways, create a connected community fabric where daily life extends seamlessly between indoor and outdoor settings.
