The architectural design of ConRAC echoes the Mid-Century Modern theme of the LAX passenger terminals, with numerous sustainability features. The west building façade will be the primary face of the ConRAC for its users and is the one most visible to the arriving passengers and the neighborhood. It features a composition of white perforated metal panels that provides both enclosure and natural ventilation for the building. Its length is animated by a series of projecting stair towers and a large elevator tower at the bus plaza. This design vernacular is carried through to all other facades at the Ready Return and Quick Turn Around buildings. The south façade will feature a randomized vertical solar array that will serve the dual purpose of a screening material while satisfying the requirement to produce 4.8 megawatts of electrical power from renewable sources at this facility. One of the distinguishing features of the RR Building is the stack of speed ramps on its south side which will allow all returning cars to directly, safely and efficiently access each of the rental car floors and the Level 5 employee parking area. Finally, the north side features a helix exit ramp that will bring all outbound cars to the vehicular exit on Arbor Vitae.

The project will also continue the Airport’s desire to continually enhance the overall passenger experience at the Airport. One way this will be accomplished is through the implementation of the new LAX Design Guidelines, which have been developed and adopted by LAWA. These design guidelines will serve as a template for upcoming terminal projects to follow, in an effort to unify the look and feel of the Central Terminal Area. Furthermore, Tom Bradley International Terminal is being developed to support the Landside Access Modernization Program. This will be accomplished by providing a coordinated connection point for one of the new elevated pedestrian walkways, which will span between the new APM stations and the passenger terminal buildings. The implementation of LAWA’s LAX Design Guidelines, and a connection point for one of the new elevated pedestrian walkways, that will help enable the LAMP project, are just a few ways that this program will support the City of Los Angeles and LAWA’s vision for creating an enhanced, long lasting passenger experience at the Airport
